In today’s society, households abroad are becoming more concerned about living healthy.  Pet owners around the world are also paying attention to what they feed their animals.  We had an opportunity to talk with Mr. Chattman Johnson, CEO/Founder, of Benchmark Premium Pet Products, about the pet food industry and their recent debut.

Unleash: How did you get into the pet food industry?
CJ: Well,  was in China working on a commercial real estate deal and a partner of mine mentioned that he had a client in China who needed a dog food distributer in the USA.  My reaction was like the one I get when I tell people that I’m in the pet food industry, I said “Dog Food” ,and he said yes, “Dog Food”.  I did my research with the help of my friend, whose a veterinarian, and the rest is history.  I am now in the pet food industry.
 
Unleash: What profession were you in, prior to the pet  food industry?
CJ: I was a broker and contractor for commercial real estate properties. 

Unleash: What separates your product from other pet food products on the market?
CJ: First and foremost, we understood the importance of caring for pets through nutrition.  That’s why our food, Benchmark, is made for all cycles of your pets life.  At  Benchmark, quality is a way of thinking from the ingredients we use to the process in which we make our pet food.  We are committed to making our premium formulas wholesome and nutritious.
 
Unleash: What makes Benchmark an all natural premium dog food?
CJ:You will not find ingredients like wheat , corn, gluton and other fillers in our product. If you take a look at the ingredients you'll find everything from brown rice, oat groats, flax seed meal,  salmon,  and chicken to vegetables like lettuce, celery, carrots and spinach. It also contains several fruits like pears, bananas, apple pomace and even blueberries.

Unleash: Why did you choose to package your products in a recyclable bag?
CJ:We knew that we had to come out with a look and something that could change with the time. Packaging is very important for the life of pet food.  Less than 1% of the pet food industry uses a recyclable bag.   A regular paper bag lasts up to a year, a eco friendly recyclable bag, like the Benchmark bag, lasts one and a half to two years.

Unleash: Is it challenging to get people to try Benchmark Pet Food?
CJ: Well once a pet owner finds a food that they believe is best for their pet, it is not easy to convince them to try something new.  It’s almost like us as adults, once we find a brand of food that we love, we pretty much stay with it.  I enjoy reading the comments from some of my clients, who at first, said “Well I don’t know, my dog is picky and doesn’t like new food”.  Once my team educates the customer about health and nutrition, they gladly purchase our product.  Some of the comments are

CJ: Absolutely, Benchmark  is bought, made, and packaged all in the USA.
